Privacy Policy

simplesat provides free SAT Reading & Writing practice and optional paid planning. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain on purpose.
What we collect
- Your practice data. The questions you answer, whether you got them right, how long you spend, and your review activity. We also record behavioral signals from how you practice (for example, when you change a first answer or stall on a question) to power your analytics and the “behaviors costing you points” insights. This is the core of what makes the app useful.
- Usage analytics. Which screens you view and which features you use, plus basic device/browser information, so we can understand how the product is used and improve it. This is handled by PostHog.
- Account information. If you sign in with Google, we store your email address and a user id so your progress can sync across your devices. If you stay a guest, we don’t collect this.
- Guest device id. If you don’t sign in, we store a random id in your browser so your progress stays on that device. It isn’t tied to your name or email. If you later sign in, that guest progress is merged into your account.
- Error reports. When something breaks, we capture the technical error (via Sentry) so we can fix it.
- Score reports and planning information. If you upload a College Board report, we store the private file and the scores and domain information extracted from it. If you use Pro, we also store the goals, constraints, AI plans, assignments, and plan-adjustment messages needed to keep the plan consistent.
- Contact and payment records. If you provide a parent email, phone number, or purchase a paid plan, we keep the contact, consent, entitlement, and transaction identifiers needed to provide those features. Stripe processes payment card details; simplesat does not store the full card number.
How we use it
We use your data to run the app, personalize your practice, show you your analytics, generate and update study recommendations, and improve the product. Aggregated and anonymized data (for example, how often a given question is answered correctly across everyone) may be used to calibrate question difficulty and make the app better. We don’t use your data to advertise to you, and we never sell it.
Where it’s stored
Your progress is saved locally in your browser first, and, when you’re signed in, synced to our database (Supabase). We rely on a small set of service providers to run simplesat: Google (sign-in), Supabase (database), PostHog (product analytics), Sentry (error monitoring), Vercel (hosting), Anthropic (AI report reading and study recommendations), Stripe (payments), and Resend (email delivery). They process data only to provide these services.
YouTube API Services
simplesat publishes free walkthrough videos to our own YouTube channel using YouTube API Services. This tooling runs entirely on our side: it uploads our own videos and manages their titles, descriptions, and thumbnails. It does not access, collect, or store any data about you or your YouTube account. If you watch our videos on YouTube, Google’s Privacy Policy applies. Our use of YouTube API Services is bound by the YouTube API Services Terms of Service.
Students and minors
simplesat is built for SAT students, and some are under 18. We collect only what’s needed to provide the study tools. Guest practice does not require an account. Signed-in and paid features may ask for account, planning, parent-contact, or payment information. If you’re under 18, please use simplesat with a parent or guardian’s permission. Parents and guardians can contact us to review or delete a student’s data.
Your choices
- Use guest mode to practice without an account.
- Clear your local progress any time with Reset progress in the app.
- Do not upload a score report if you do not want it processed by the AI report reader.
- Ask us to access or delete your account data. See below.
